Zavelier · The perfumers
Patience, contrast and the cultivation of a fragrance
Sophie Labbé grew up between Paris and the vineyards of Charente-Maritime, experiencing the contrast between city life and the French countryside. A meeting with Jean Kerléo in 1985 helped her recognize perfumery as a vocation. After studying chemistry, she entered ISIPCA and graduated at the top of her class in 1987.
Her career took her through Givaudan and a long period at IFF before she joined Firmenich in 2019. Across these roles, she has created for houses including Bvlgari, Givenchy, Estée Lauder and Penhaligon’s. Rose Magnetic for Essential Parfums offers a particularly direct expression of her interest in the many facets of a flower.
Labbé often compares composition with gardening. Both require patience, close attention and the willingness to let an idea mature. Natural materials, coastal landscapes and travel provide recurring sources of inspiration, while her aim is to discover the emotions a fragrance can awaken in its wearer.
