Zavelier · The perfumers
From the scents of Grasse to the search for new materials
Serge Majoullier grew up in Grasse, where the surrounding natural world helped form his attention to scent. He recalls becoming fascinated by personal fragrance at about fourteen, when his brother began bringing perfumes home. Wearing them revealed how closely a scent could become connected to personality.
His work at Mane combines composition with a sustained interest in raw materials and the discovery of new smells. In a Fragrance Foundation France conversation with purchasing director David Morenon, he described a profession built around curiosity and human encounters. Woods and scents associated with food hold a particular place in his sensory memories.
Majoullier created Bouquet de Hongrie, one of the early fragrances from BDK Parfums. Speaking about that collaboration, he presents perfume as a way of creating emotion and telling a story. His background in Grasse and his exploration of ingredients provide the practical foundation for that narrative approach.
