Zavelier · The perfumers
Archive reinterpretation, new compositions and the teaching of materials
Richard Melchio is a perfumer associated with Robertet in the United Kingdom and with its laboratories in Grasse. His published professional record includes both original fragrance creation and the reinterpretation of historical formulas.
With Trevor Nicholl and Jean-Marie Santantoni, he worked on the revival of Grossmith, helping bring a long-established perfume house’s archived compositions into a new period of production. That type of commission requires understanding the character of an earlier formula as well as the materials and methods available to reproduce it.
His work also includes Xerjoff Oesel, launched in 2009. Melchio’s influence extends through teaching: Lyn Harris is among the perfumers identified as having trained with him at Robertet. His career therefore connects the preservation of perfume heritage, contemporary commissions and the transmission of practical knowledge to other creators.
