Zavelier · The perfumers
A Robertet career and a sensory curiosity fed by food, places and art
Richard Ibanez discovered his vocation through access to Robertet’s perfume laboratory. In a first-person interview, he recalled recognising the power a fragrance could have for the person encountering it.
His career developed within the house and produced a varied portfolio, including Living Lalique, Escada Ibiza Hippie, Azzaro Pure Lavande, Sonia Rykiel Le Parfum and Andrea Maack Coal.
Ibanez’s favourite smells reveal a broad sensory appetite: market spices, fruit and herbs, Moroccan pastries, wine and Italian cooking. He also remembers the woody smell of his childhood classroom. These experiences supply different kinds of material ideas, while the finished composition must answer the needs of a particular project. His account combines a close relationship with natural ingredients, a long practical education inside a fragrance house and a continuing interest in the ordinary smells that can make a lasting impression.
