Theatre, contrast and a clear creative idea

Before becoming a perfumer, Quentin Bisch studied music and directed a performing company. An internship in Grasse introduced him to fragrance composition and changed the course of his career. Years of study followed, giving him the technical vocabulary to carry his interest in performance, emotion and storytelling into scent.

His approach begins with a strong idea. Rather than filling a composition with equal effects, he uses distinctive materials and carefully placed contrasts to make that idea memorable. Essential Parfums describes the influence of theatre in his work: unexpected details, movement and a sense of surprise.

Bisch has created for houses including Jean Paul Gaultier, Chloé, Ex Nihilo and Essential Parfums. Bois Impérial offers a useful introduction to his work, pairing a fresh, aromatic opening with the spicy, woody presence of Akigalawood.
