Zavelier · The perfumers
A practical education in fragrance laboratories
Pierre Negrin grew up in Grasse with early memories of the workshops of his grandfathers, who traded in plants and products for fragrance. He initially imagined a career in photography, drawn to the possibility of expressing an idea through an image.
During physics and chemistry studies, an opportunity in a perfumer’s laboratory opened another direction. He learned the craft through practical work rather than a specialist perfume-school route.
His career later took him to Mexico and the United States, including a move to Firmenich’s New York fine-fragrance centre in 2008. His work includes Amouage Interlude Man and other compositions represented below. Negrin’s published accounts connect creation with the selection and arrangement of materials, much as a photographer chooses what to include in a frame. The Mediterranean landscape remains part of that background, alongside the international experience gained through his professional life.
