A fragrance language connected with music and emotion
Pascal Gaurin studied at ISIPCA before beginning his career at IFF. Early work in Hong Kong broadened his knowledge of Asian cultures and fragrance preferences, followed by a move to New York in 1997.
His subsequent career has included international commissions and a close creative relationship with ST. ROSE. In a 2026 interview, the house described his work from IFF’s Dubai creative office and discussed the connection between music and his way of composing.
Gaurin experiences fragrance through musical associations, allowing rhythm, tone and contrast to suggest how a formula might unfold. For ST. ROSE, projects including Out of the Blue, Crazy Love and Jack of Hearts provided different settings for that approach. His account places emotional response at the centre of the work, while the material choices and structure of a perfume give that response a precise, wearable form.
