Zavelier · The perfumers
An art-history student who found his vocation in the laboratory
Olivier Polge discovered perfumery during a summer internship at Chanel while studying art history at the École du Louvre. Working in the laboratory where his father Jacques was the house perfumer, he became fascinated by the materials and the act of making.
Three years of training at Charabot in Grasse followed. He joined IFF in 1998, working in New York and later Paris on fragrances for houses including Viktor & Rolf, Jil Sander and Balenciaga. Dior Homme, launched in 2005, became an important individual milestone.
Polge joined Chanel in 2013 and took over from his father in 2015. His career connects an independent period of creation for several brands with the continuity of a house perfume tradition. The work requires both a personal point of view and a close understanding of the materials, formulas and references that give Chanel’s fragrance world its identity.
