Words, music and an independent route into perfume

Oli Marlow is an independent perfumer and writer whose background includes music journalism. His public work connects the description of sensory experience with the practical attempt to create it.

A contribution to Eddie Bulliqi’s Scent Verse project brought that relationship into focus through a poem titled Petrichor. The project placed a developing perfumer’s interest in smell alongside the language used to suggest atmosphere and memory.

Marlow later collaborated with Marie Schnirer on Jovoy’s 21 Conduit St. A lavender accord from his own work became the starting point for a contemporary interpretation of the aromatic note, developed with Schnirer’s formulation experience. The fragrance gives a concrete introduction to his independent perspective and to the exchange between an initial creative idea and the technical craft needed to shape it into a complete perfume.
