Zavelier · The perfumers
From Japanese landscapes to an international fragrance education
Nanako Ogi grew up in Japan among rice fields and forests, developing a curiosity about the smells of nature even without perfume being a prominent part of daily life. While she was studying anthropology, a friend suggested perfumery as a possible profession.
She moved to the United States, completed chemistry studies and gained a decade of industry experience before entering the Givaudan Perfumery School. Her subsequent career included work in Dubai from 2017 and later in Singapore.
Ogi’s published biography describes an interest in translating the emotions of everyday experience into scent. Her commissions include Fragrance Du Bois Sirène, a project highlighted by the Fragrance Foundation UK. Her career connects a close attention to natural surroundings with formal scientific and material study, then with the experience of creating for different cultures and audiences. The fragrances below provide an introduction to that growing body of work.
