Botanical curiosity, travel and an interest in creative constraints
Marion Costero’s interest in scent developed through food, aromatic herbs and the landscapes of southern France. She initially considered horticultural engineering before choosing perfumery and studying at ISIPCA.
Her career has included work at IFF and Givaudan, with experience connected to both France and Brazil. Her published portfolio spans international beauty and fragrance brands, while botanical encounters and travel remain important sources of material ideas.
A later conversation with fragrance writer Nicolas Olczyk described Costero’s independent work and an unusual earlier experiment at Givaudan: a perfume inspired by Georges Perec’s novel La disparition, built without ingredients whose names contained the letter ‘e’. The project shows how a constraint can become a creative tool. Alongside that conceptual interest, her work continues to draw on the rich, many-sided character of natural materials and the memories attached to them.
