Zavelier · The perfumers
A Parisian creative eye and an independent approach to composition
Marie Schnirer grew up in Paris, with urban life, architecture and the arts supplying a rich field of inspiration. After chemistry studies at Université Paris 7, she attended the École Supérieure du Parfum.
Her work with Maelstrom has involved bespoke fragrance creation and an understanding of different international markets. Travel and the exchange with clients form part of the process, alongside the individual material study carried out in the laboratory.
Her commissions include BDK Nuit de Sable and Panouge’s Rose Agathe and Patchouli Figue. In interviews, Schnirer describes inspiration as almost unlimited: a memory, landscape, person or ingredient can all begin a perfume. She distinguishes the ongoing observation of the world from the later task of translating its emotional effect into a formula. That approach keeps the composition connected to an experience while leaving room for experimentation and an unexpected interpretation.
