An Italian creator whose work begins with knowledge of materials
Marco Genovese is a perfumer and entrepreneur associated with the Italian fragrance company CreaSens. The Accademia del Profumo’s account of his work highlights a detailed understanding of raw materials and a professional practice developed from 1989.
His work includes creative interpretation as well as the management of a fragrance business. For the Accademia’s Profumo di Cinema project, he translated the suspense before a final Western-film duel into an olfactory idea, considering how silence, timing and anticipation might be expressed through scent.
His fragrance credits also include work for Electimuss, including Black Caviar. These different settings show the range of a practice in which a material education supports an abstract creative brief. The perfume begins with an image, story or brand concept, but must find its eventual form through the selection and balancing of ingredients.
