Italian entrepreneurship and a close study of raw materials
Luca Maffei grew up within the fragrance industry and began as a perfumer’s assistant in the family business in 2007, after classical and economic studies. He continued his education in Grasse with Françoise Marin, studying materials through the Jean Carles method.
Back in Italy, he worked at M&M Fragrances before co-founding Atelier Fragranze Milano with his father in 2011. The company brought together composition and entrepreneurship, with Maffei taking an active role in both.
In a 2025 interview, he described scent as an immediate connection with people, places and emotion, including memories of summers in Versilia. His practice also extends into artistic projects, such as interpreting a cinematic scene through fragrance. Maffei’s career joins a family introduction to the industry with a structured material education and a commitment to developing Italian fragrance creation within an international field.
