A chef’s sensory education, carried into artistic perfumery
Lorenzo Pazzaglia’s earliest sensory world was the family restaurant in the hills near Cagli, in Italy’s Marche region. Cooking, ingredients and the smells of daily family life formed the background to his later work as a chef.
His move towards perfume began with experiments using essential oils, shared with friends and restaurant customers. The direct responses of those around him helped develop an interest in telling stories and recalling sensations through something that could be worn.
His namesake fragrance project grew into PAX by Lorenzo Pazzaglia, supported by his family. Carbonara makes the connection between his two professions particularly clear: rather than reproduce a dish literally, the perfume explores pepper, smoky effects, creamy impressions and warm woods around the pleasure of gathering at a table. His work brings the practical sensitivity of a cook to another form of composition, where memory and emotion become part of a fragrance’s identity.
