Zavelier · The perfumers
A childhood language of materials, refined through close mentorship
Julie Massé knew about perfume from childhood through her father’s work in the industry. The samples and raw materials he brought home developed into a fascination with the different facets of plants and fragrance ingredients.
She studied chemistry and graduated from ISIPCA before training with Pierre Bourdon and later Christine Nagel. She joined Mane in 2010, creating for houses including Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein and Annick Goutal.
Massé describes natural ingredients as a primary source of inspiration. Her task is to reveal their character while allowing each element of the formula to support the others. Texture, warmth and the movement of a perfume as it unfolds all matter to that process. In her account, a successful fragrance can feel like an invisible companion, giving its wearer energy and reassurance. The work connects a detailed material education with a strong interest in the emotional experience of wearing scent.
