Zavelier · The perfumers
A family connection to perfumery and a career of his own
Jean-Marc Chaillan followed his father, Raymond Chaillan, into perfumery. His career developed at IFF, with a body of work distinct from his father’s earlier contributions to the industry.
In a Pitti Fragranze questionnaire, Chaillan described a strong attachment to the south of France, perfume, family and food. The personal account offers a small but direct view of the interests behind a profession whose creators have often remained less visible than the brands they serve.
His credited work includes Estée Lauder Jasmine White Moss, among other compositions represented in the catalogue below. In an interview reflecting on changes in the industry, Raymond Chaillan discussed his son’s success alongside the different pressures facing modern perfumers. That comparison places Jean-Marc’s career within both a family tradition and a wider transformation in the way fragrances are commissioned, developed and brought to the public.
