Technical training and the freedom to build a new story
Guillaume Flavigny studied at ISIPCA from 1998 to 2000, then continued at Givaudan’s Perfumery School until 2003. He joined the Paris team and worked with Antoine Lie for two years, an important period in his professional development.
His credited creations include Comme des Garçons Black, Elizabeth Arden White Tea, Tom Ford Cherry Smoke and the shared creation of Montblanc Signature. In a 2026 interview, he described collaboration as a way to keep learning, with another perfumer sometimes helping refine a project at a later stage.
Flavigny compares composition with music: combining materials to tell a new story. He values natural and synthetic ingredients for the different possibilities they offer, including modern effects, creative freedom and performance. His account makes a distinction between the technical education needed to understand the palette and the imagination required to turn that knowledge into an emotional experience.
