Gérard Haury is best documented through Chrome, the Azzaro fragrance launched in 1996. His public professional record is comparatively discreet, and detailed first-person accounts of his education and career are scarce.

Chrome provides the clearest introduction to his work. Its fresh citrus, aromatic and aquatic character belongs to an important period in the development of contemporary masculine fragrance, when transparent, expansive forms gained a wide audience.

The original composition became the starting point for a larger Azzaro fragrance family. Later perfumes carrying the Chrome name should be considered separate works, with their own creators and formulas.
