Zavelier · The perfumers
An unexpected idea, developed with lightness and collaboration
Émilie Coppermann decided to become a perfumer at thirteen after meeting Nicolas Mamounias, then working at Rochas. The discovery that her interest in smell could become a profession led her towards chemistry studies and ISIPCA.
An internship at Florasynth became her first job after graduation. She trained with Dominique Ropion and Jean-Louis Sieuzac, and continued within the company as it became part of Symrise. Her career includes work for The Different Company and Comme des Garçons, among many other houses.
Coppermann describes perfumery as a game in which an offbeat idea or surprising story can open a new direction. That freedom is supported by close relationships with brands, evaluators, assistants and fellow perfumers. She also speaks about accepting the many projects that do not reach launch while keeping enthusiasm for those that do. For her, the emotional conversations people have about perfume are an important source of both motivation and inspiration.
