Zavelier · The perfumers
A Grasse family background and a close dialogue with the landscape
Émilie Bouge grew up in Grasse in a family of perfume makers. In a first-person interview, she recalled a summer spent with a perfumer cousin as the experience that confirmed her desire to follow the profession.
Her work includes a close creative relationship with Miller Harris. Discussing Hydra Figue, she described a process that begins with the brand’s concept and develops through composition and exchange with its product director. A fragrance may take up to a year to reach its finished form.
Hydra Figue draws on the Greek island of Hydra, using fig, aromatic and marine impressions to evoke its landscape and atmosphere. The project shows how a place can act as a starting point without becoming a literal inventory of everything found there. Bouge’s account joins a family familiarity with perfume to the sustained practical work of interpreting an idea, testing materials and shaping a coherent scent.
