Contemporary compositions shaped by material and cultural exchange
Dalia Izem is a perfumer whose work at Givaudan has connected her with the fragrance culture of the Middle East and with international independent houses. Her documented commissions include creations for OJAR, Ex Nihilo and Ajmal.
Épine du Désert for OJAR was the composition associated with her Perfumer of the Year recognition at Beautyworld Middle East in 2022. It explores rose alongside saffron, suede and woods. For Ex Nihilo’s Iris Porcelana, a different material and image supplied the starting point: iris pallida and the delicacy of French porcelain.
These projects reveal distinct creative briefs rather than a single fixed formula. Her later work includes Tea in Paris for Ajmal’s Untold Stories collection, linked to memories of Parisian tea rooms, and Ember Brew, presented within Givaudan’s fire-themed Beautyworld 2024 programme. Together they offer a documented view of a practice that moves between texture, place, memory and the expressive possibilities of ingredients.
