Zavelier · The perfumers
Photography, memory and the desire to tell a story
Clément Marx is a perfumer whose professional development took place at Robertet. Recalling his early path in a first-person podcast conversation, he described a childhood surrounded by the smells of cooking, wine and nature.
His initial studies focused on mathematics and physics. Discovering the possibility of a career in perfumery redirected that path towards raw materials and composition. Training alongside Robertet’s perfumers gave him a practical education in the ingredients and decisions behind a finished scent.
Photography is an important source of inspiration in his account. The act of noticing and framing an impression has a parallel in fragrance: selecting what matters and finding a way to communicate it. Marx describes a wish to tell stories through his work, while acknowledging the chance encounters and changes of direction that helped shape his own career. His compositions below provide an introduction to that developing body of work.
