The Carbonnel heritage and a personal understanding of powerful scent

Chris Maurice is the professional name of Christian Carbonnel, a perfumer from the family behind Carbonnel S.A. His grandfather established the business in 1925; his father later developed its expertise in Middle Eastern fragrance markets.

As a child, he visited the laboratory with his father and travelled to see plantations in Spain. Before concentrating on creation, he worked through different departments of the family company. That experience connected the artistic side of perfume with production, materials and the practical life of a fragrance business.

In interviews, Maurice describes a particular affinity for incense, amber and woody materials, influenced by the tastes and traditions he encountered through the family’s work. Generous proportions and a strong fragrance presence form part of that approach. His commissions span houses including Xerjoff, Kajal and Zoologist, while C De La Niche provides a setting for his own entrepreneurial and creative ideas.
