Zavelier · The perfumers
A clear idea, refined to its essential form
Bruno Jovanovic grew up in France with a fascination for smells and his mother’s perfumes. As a teenager, he explored department-store fragrance counters, collecting impressions that gradually became an ambition to work in the industry.
After a degree in physics and chemistry at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, he studied at ISIPCA and graduated with top honours. He then moved to New York, beginning a career that would take him between the United States and Paris for more than twenty years.
Jovanovic describes a preference for a simple message that can be recognised immediately. Painting, philosophy, words and everyday textures can all suggest an idea, which he then works to simplify and clarify. Patchouli holds a particular place in his palette. His interviews also consider time: how raw materials mature, interact and become a finished fragrance. The result is a practice in which an intellectual starting point remains closely connected to sensory experience.
