Travel, leather and long creative partnerships
Aliénor Massenet began her career as a junior perfumer in New York in 1995. Her professional path included IFF before she joined Symrise in 2016. Experiences in different countries, from her education in England to working life in the United States, form part of the background to her compositions.
Her long association with Memo Paris is a particularly useful way to discover her work. Working with the house’s creative director, Clara Molloy, she has translated places, imagined journeys and memories into perfumes, including Irish Leather, African Leather and Marfa. These creations explore how a recognisable material or landscape can become a complete fragrance world.
Massenet has spoken about modernising leather and seeking an element of surprise. Her broader work also includes Copper for Comme des Garçons, recognised by the Fragrance Foundation France in 2020. Alongside creation, she has taken part in olfactory workshops for people affected by difficult life events.
