Zavelier · The perfumers
New textures and unexpected combinations
Alexis Grugeon grew up in Beauvais, in northern France, surrounded by woodland and nature. A visit to the perfume museum in Grasse at the age of nine gave him a clear ambition: he wanted to make fragrance the centre of his working life.
In his fragrance-house biography, Grugeon describes a creative interest in texture, contrast and surprising combinations. He looks for ways to bring appealing materials together so that the result feels different from its individual parts. He also explains that being colour-blind has made smell a particularly important way for him to experience and interpret the world.
Music and sport form another part of that background. A drummer in his youth and later a triathlete, he values both the discipline of individual practice and the exchange of ideas with fellow perfumers. His stated aim is to keep discovering new signatures through collaboration while continuing to develop his own understanding of the craft.
